The Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament, the final tournament of the professional sumo calendar, returns to Fukuoka Kokusai Center for 15 days of top-level competition. Wrestlers from across Japan gather in Fukuoka to compete, with renewed excitement surrounding the sport following the emergence of a two-yokozuna era led by Hoshoryu and Onosato, alongside a strong new generation of rising talent.
In addition to watching bouts featuring yokozuna, ozeki, and other top-ranked wrestlers, visitors can experience the unique traditions that make sumo so distinctive—from the ceremonial ring-entering rituals and the calls of the yobidashi attendants to the work of the gyoji referees and the sharp crack of wooden clappers echoing through the arena. During the tournament, it is also common to spot wrestlers around Hakata, making the event a beloved seasonal tradition that signals the arrival of late autumn in Fukuoka.
