The Fukuoka International Marathon, with its storied 76-year history, has played host to numerous memorable races. This year, it takes on additional significance as it doubles as the qualifier for the Japanese marathon team for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Competitors aiming for national selection are tasked with surpassing the challenging qualifying time of 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 50 seconds. The race promises to be a swift one, with high expectations placed on these athletes. The course stretches 42.195 kilometers, starting at the Heiwadai Track and Field Stadium, weaving through Ohori Park, looping around the southwestern parts of Fukuoka City, and making a turn at Kashii. Known for its minimal elevation changes, the course is conducive to fast times and is expected to see a spirited competition among the 295 male elite runners, which includes a field of 11 specially invited athletes.
