Gekkasai

START: Oct 27, 2019 END: Oct 27, 2019

First held in 2012 to invigorate the Tenjin area, Gekkasai is a festival honoring Kaguya-hime, who is the main character of the Heian Period fairy tale “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter”. About 300 locals dressed in period costumes will march in a parade at 11 am from Kego Park to Kego Shrine, through Meiji-dori Ave. up to Nishi-dori Ave. An elementary school girl named Juju Takanami will play the role of Kaguya-hime and will ride on a float. At 2:20 pm, a portable Kaguya-hime shrine will be carried around 11 major shopping buildings in Tenjin and there will be a series of Kaguya-hime dances. Stage events and live performances at Kego Shrine, too. Bring your camera and take lots of photos – you can submit them for their photo contest and receive prizes if you win!
