On November 2, Yanagawa holds a festival to honor poet Hakushu Kitahara on the anniversary of his passing. Around 40 “donko” boats, decorated with lanterns, set off in procession from the Hakushu Monument Garden, gliding along Yanagawa’s waterways lit by bonfires. A 4-kilometer route features special stages where performers present Hakushu’s poetry in song, along with local arts, taiko drumming, koto performances, and choral music, creating an enchanting atmosphere. The festival concludes with fireworks, offering a warm welcome from the community.
