Commemorate the Life of Poet Hakushu Kitahara at the Yanagawa Festival: Held in the poet’s hometown of Yanagawa, this festival takes place on November 2nd, the anniversary of Hakushu Kitahara’s passing. Around 35 traditional ‘Donkobune’ boats, adorned with Andon lanterns, set sail one by one from the Hakushu Shihi Garden. They form a water parade that illuminates the night as bonfires glow along the canals.
Special stages will be set up along the approximately 4km route, where performances featuring songs of Hakushu, local arts, drumming, koto music, choruses, and other musical presentations add to the ethereal atmosphere. The event concludes with a fireworks display as a grand finale, welcoming and enchanting residents and visitors alike. Experience a night of poetic beauty and local culture in the magical setting of Yanagawa.
