Hele mei hoohiwahiwa (come celebrate)! This year marks the 36th anniversary of Fukuoka and Hawaii becoming sister states/cities (in 1981), and to celebrate there will be a Hawaiian festival in downtown Fukuoka. The third governor of Hawaii, George Ariyoshi, with his wife will be visiting to give a speech again. There will be Hawaiian music performances by Koda Kenichi, Rag Fair and other musicians from Tokyo, hula contest for kids, and many stalls with Hawaiian food, beer, and fashion items that are usually not available in Fukuoka.
