Henry Miller Exhibition: Exploring the Novelist’s Connection with Japan

START: Nov 2, 2023 END: Nov 22, 2023

The University of Kitakyushu Library currently hosts a unique exhibition from November 2 to November 22, 2023, revealing the profound connections between American novelist and watercolor painter Henry Miller (1891-1980) and Japan. The display includes original Japanese materials that highlight Miller’s friendships with Japanese authors and the influence of Japanese art and culture on his works. Noteworthy items include Miller’s novels, rare editions, and personal correspondence connected with Junichiro Tanizaki’s novel “The Key”. The exhibition, free to the public, is curated by Associate Professor Wayne Arnold and is based on research funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (KAKENHI). Visitors can explore Miller’s world and his lifelong interest in Japan from Monday to Saturday (9:00 – 21:30) and Sunday (10:00 – 18:00), with no need for reservations.
