Isla de Salsa is back – the musical melting pot is bringing its signature Latin spice to Fukuoka once again! For the festival’s 20th anniversary it’s heading back to Nokonoshima Island, where the first few Isla de Salsa festivals took place all those years ago. With a stunning lineup of music and dance performances by international artists, you’ll be salsa-ing in the sand long into the evening. The headliner is salsa orchestra Tromboranga; this band uses trombones, strong percussion and “soneos” (voice improvisation among the chorus) to create raw and danceable music! The island is just a 10-minute ferry ride from Meinohama, but attendees can also opt to book a space in one of the communal bungalows (¥2,500 per person). Whether you spend the day listening to music, dancing, sampling a variety of food, gazing at unique artworks, riding a banana boat or just sunbathing, why not spice up your summer with Isla de Salsa?

2016 Lineup
Headliner
TROMBORANGA – Salsa Orchestra
Harnessing the energy of a new generation of cosmopolitan salseros based in Barcelona, Tromboranga has injected new life into the classic sound of hard salsa. In doing so, Tromboranga has quickly become the band of choice throughout Europe for reigniting dancers’ enthusiasm for the original Nuyorican salsa of the 1960s and 1970s. The group’s musical footprint also extends to the Americas via Puerto Rico, the U.S and Colombia, and now to Asia via Japan and Taiwan.
