Inviting members of Fukuoka’s international community to join us for a FREE Japanese traditional culture experience and meal. This afternoon program includes a meal and four Japanese Traditional Performances. Your valuable feedback on this experience will help refine and improve this program for others. If you enjoy Japanese performing arts, washoku, and Japanese traditions, this is for you! We have space for four persons. (For your information, the regular price for this experience (meal + four experiences) would be ¥75,000 per person.)

Applicant Criteria:
– Must be 20 years or older
– Enthusiastic about traditional Japanese performing arts and Japanese cuisine.
– Note: menu substitutions/special dietary requirements cannot be accommodated
– Willing to provide feedback via a survey within 24 hrs post-tour
– Open to all nationalities (except Japanese), and genders (Note: Part of an inbound tourism market research project)
– Couples welcome, but each individual must apply separately
– Consent to photo and video use for reporting and potential web/social media inclusion

– Transportation costs to and from the venue are not included.

REGULARLY OFFERED TOUR – DETAILS

Experience the heart of Japan: enter a room adorned with tatami mats, sliding doors, shoji screens, and zabuton cushions. Let the tranquil tunes of the shamisen captivate your senses as you delve into the rich history of Kushida Shrine through lively festivals like “Hakata Gion Yamakasa” and “Hakata Dontaku,” spanning over 700 years. Immerse yourself in a harmonious blend of traditional arts, including the timeless Noh performance, all complemented by a delightful meal.

Savor the essence of Japan through staples like koji, miso, soy sauce, and rice. Our time-honored Japanese cuisine, unaltered through the years, caters to diverse palates, welcoming vegetarian preferences with open arms.

To book your experience, first, specify the number of participants. Then, select your preferred date and time. Choose the course for the basic experience plan and proceed to the “Reservation Application.” Fill in your customer information. On the next screen, you have the option to add extra features. If you opt for additional options, indicate the quantity per person. A minimum of 2 participants is required, so please apply for two or more people. The operator overseeing this is “Hakata Geidokoro Wanoka.”

Experience Outline:
The basic plan entitles you to a delightful meal paired with one traditional performing arts experience chosen from Noh, Japanese dance, shamisen, or tea ceremony. Feel free to enrich your experience by adding more options as paid enhancements.

Noh:
“Noh” embodies a musical drama with chanting (song, dialogue), and instruments. Performers wear distinctive masks known as “Noh masks.” Complementing this is “Kyogen,” a comedic form illustrating the daily life of medieval commoners through witty dialogue. *Noh performances may feature both men and women on different days. Please note that preferences for male or female performances cannot be accommodated.

Japanese Dance:
This category encompasses various traditional dances in Japan. Kabuki dance, for instance, involves choreography set to accompaniments like Joruri and Nagauta. These dances artfully convey emotions through synchronized movements with the music.

Shamisen:
Originating around the 16th century from the Sanshin of the Ryukyu Kingdom, the shamisen is a relatively modern addition to Japanese music.

Tea Ceremony:
The tea ceremony adheres to traditional Japanese style, emphasizing the preparation of tea and extending hospitality to guests. This practice involves various customs, such as tea preparation, receiving etiquette, sitting postures, and bowing. Immerse yourself in the essence of the tea ceremony, appreciating not only the tea but also the atmosphere crafted after experiencing traditional arts.

Prices:
– Basic Plan: Meal + One Experience: ¥30,000
– Meal + Two Experiences (add one experience): ¥30,000 + ¥15,000 = ¥45,000
– Meal + Three Experiences (add two experiences): ¥30,000 + ¥30,000 = ¥60,000
– Meal + Four Experience Plans (add four experiences): ¥30,000 + ¥45,000 = ¥75,000
*The duration varies based on the number of experience plans. Consultation may be necessary for the start time, depending on the number of experiences chosen.

Schedule Outline (example):
17:00~20:00, 3 hours, including a meal and the Noh plan, with a tea ceremony experience.
