Browse a wide range of imported goods and food from 15 different countries as this annual event returns to Fukuoka, bigger than ever! The approach to the Sumiyoshi Shrine will be lined with unique stalls selling homewares, accessories, clothes and more! As you wander the markets, indulge in some tasty international treats at the food court, including booths by many of Fukuoka’s most popular international restaurants. Try Jamaican food by “Xaymaca”, Sudanese by “Kebabooz”, Russian from “Nina” and more! If it’s a drink you’re after, stop at the world beer corner and sample various labels of beer from all over the world. The atmosphere will be set with free live acoustic performances by a traditional Nepalese band on an outdoor stage. EXTRA! This year’s Oriental Market coincides with Sumiyoshi Shrine’s autumn festival “Daireisai”. So after you’ve checked out the markets, you can enjoy a program of special live events at the shrine. Watch “chigo gyoretsu”, a traditional children’s kimono parade (10/12), “yabusame”, a show of traditional Japanese archery on horseback (10/13), a live performance by local musos (10/14) and performance of the “chikushi dance” (10/14). Enjoy two great events in one day!
