Hakataza Theatre’s annual early summer kabuki production, June Hakataza Grand Kabuki, returns in 2026 as a special name succession performance celebrating Onoe Kikunosuke’s succession to Onoe Kikugorō VIII and Onoe Ushinosuke’s succession to Onoe Kikunosuke VI.
The daytime program features Kotobuki Shiki Sanbasō, Kurumabiki, and Ibaraki, while the evening program presents Jiisan Baasan, based on a story by Mori Ōgai. Renowned kabuki actors including Ichikawa Danjūrō and Nakamura Jakuemon also appear, creating a distinguished lineup unique to this commemorative performance. Single-act tickets are also scheduled to be available, offering an accessible way for first-time audiences to experience kabuki.
