A large plant market takes place in Kurume, a city known for its azaleas. Counted among Japan’s top three plant fairs, the event draws 3,000 to 4,000 visitors during its run. It’s held at a special venue within the Kurume Green and Flower Center, just south of the Michi-no-Eki Kurume roadside station. Around one million plants, seedlings, and flowers from 30,000 varieties are available for purchase, including many Kurume azaleas, which are especially popular and brought directly by growers.
In addition, the Kurume World Azalea Center (1875-1 Mino, Yamamoto-machi, Kurume City) will open to the public for free from April 5 to 25. Approximately 10,000 azaleas from 1,000 varieties, collected from Japan and abroad, will be on display, with a focus on Kurume azaleas.
