Kurume “Bunka-Gai” Sakura Festival

START: Apr 2, 2014 END: Apr 2, 2014

With sakura season quickly drawing near, the residents of Kurume City are getting ready for their ‘Bunka-gai Sakura Festival’. This year’s festival has been dubbed the “300,000 person ‘Cheers under the Cherry Blossoms’ festival” and it is sure to be a pleasant and festive time. Kurume is famous nationwide for it’s ‘B-Gourmet’, so there’s a range of great food options available including many famous yakitori vendors in attendance! The main event is a parade of portable shrines made from sake barrels. Those wanting to participate in the parade should inquire in advance for more details and to reserve a spot. Other events include blessings at Suitengu Shrine (a Shinto shrine dedicated to water) to purify Kurume’s local sake spirits, along with performances of taiko, COOL MB (a local Kurume musician), belly-dancing and more.
