Around 38,000 Lions clubs members are coming to Fukuoka this week for the 99th Lions Clubs Annual International Convention (read our special bumper Lions issue). To welcome the Lions, there will be a special fair in Tenjin. 74 booths will show off Kyushu’s local specialties to Lions clubs members and the general public. There will be food and drink booths (selling ramen, shochu, coffee and so on) and souvenir stands (selling Menbei, Hakata Burabura and more), as well as a currency exchange service, delivery service (for items purchased at the market, domestic only), medical aid and a Red Cross booth. On Jun. 26 (Sun.) from 10:00 to 16:30, there will be a variety of stage performances, including the Fukuoka Kanbee Girls (a kimono-clad idol group) and the Hakata Kimono Association & Taiko Drums. Look out for Kumamoto promotion from Kumamon, Kumamoto’s famous bear character. Please note: On Jun. 25 from 10:00 till 14:00, the park will be extra crowded, since it will serve as the endpoint of the convention’s International Parade. More information here.
