Witness the enchanting “Path of Light” stretching straight from Miyajihama Beach to the stairs of Miyajidake Shrine, illuminated by the setting sun over the Genkai Sea. This mystical sight can only be seen for a few days each year, specifically in late February and late October. This winter’s prime viewing period is from February 17th to 25th, coinciding with the “Festival of the Sunset.”
On February 17th, a prayer ceremony for the year’s bountiful harvest will be held in the morning. During this period, visitors can obtain a special limited-edition stamp (starting from ¥1,500) commemorating the Path of Light. Free numbered tickets for viewing the phenomenon from the shrine’s stairs (limited availability) will be distributed from 2 PM on the day.
From 3 PM until sunset, the stairs along the approach to the shrine will serve as viewing seats for the Festival of the Sunset, making them inaccessible for climbing or descending. Those wishing for a special prayer and a reserved seat in the upper part of the stairs to view the Path of Light after the prayer ceremony should make a reservation by phone.
