The Mihashira Shrine’s Autumn Festival, known as “Onigie,” derives its name from the word “Onigiwai,” meaning “great excitement.” The festival honors three deities: Tachibana Muneshige, the first lord of the Yanagawa domain, his wife Ginchiyo, and his father-in-law Bekki Akitsura. Approximately 100 street vendors set up within the shrine’s grounds, filling the town with a festive atmosphere. The climax of the event is the “Divine Procession,” taking place in the afternoon of the 8th. Performers leaning out from festival floats showcase a unique dance called “Dorotsukudon.” This dance is accompanied by lively drum and gong rhythms that energize the dancers and elevate the spirit of the festival.
