A new documentary tells the life of the late freestyle motocross hero from Japan, Eigo Sato. Eigo Sato burst onto the freestyle motocross scene like a lightning storm. The Western world does not see much from the Japanese freestyle circle until their riders make their debut on the world stage, so when Eigo Sato came out with his no-name jersey and flag dangling from his riding pants (which were usually just heavy-duty shorts), people did not know what to make of him. However, the beauty of motocross is that the only thing that really matters is that you have the riding to back up your style, and both riding and style are things Eigo had in spades. A crazy energy and fearless gusto on the dirtbike made Sato one of the most exciting riders in the world to watch before his tragic crash in early 2013. In celebration of the Japanese legend, a new film called “Ride for Life: The Eigo Sato Story” from Red Bull Media house explores the life of Eigo Sato. From Sato leaving Japan at 18 to the U.S. where he would discover the art of FMX, to competing and mastering the discipline, to the competitors he considered family such as Thomas Pages, Taka Higashino and Dany Torres, the documentary delves into the rider’s short, but incredible life. “Ride for Life: The Eigo Sato Story” was released in Japan on April 26th, and is currently showing at United Cinemas Canal City 13 (Fukuoka) until 5/23.
