“Sacred Island of Okinoshima” at Kyushu National Museum

The special exhibition “Sacred Island of Okinoshima in Munakata Region and the Yamato Imperial Court” is running at the Kyushu National Museum in Dazaifu until Sunday, March 5. This popular exhibit will feature the history of this sacred island which lies about 60km off the coast from Munakata City, Fukuoka. Included in the exhibition will be all the national treasures that were found on the island along with their historical connection to Kyushu and the rest of Asia. You can also learn about famous Japanese myths originating from Kyushu and see the beautiful golden rings that made their way to Okinoshima along the Silk Road.
