Visit one of Itoshima’s captivating attractions, Meotoiwa at Futamigaura, and witness the annual festival where the grand shimenawa rope is replaced. This unique ceremony takes place on a Sunday during the spring tide, between late April and May each year. The shimenawa rope, stretching about 30 meters in length and weighing approximately one ton, is crafted starting at 8:00 AM. By 1:00 PM, around 50 community members make their way across the seabed, exposed by the low tide, to ascend the rocks and hang the new rope. This once-a-year spectacle is not to be missed!
