Approximately 1,000 candles surrounding the Shinji-ike Pond at Dazaifu Tenmangu will be lit up in this Shinto ritual. Their gently flickering lights reflecting on the water is a sight to behold. Crowds also flock to watch the ethereal dance of shrine maidens to gagaku music on a specially constructed floating stage.
