Kashii Shrine traces its roots back to 200 AD, believed to have been founded by Empress Jingu, who constructed a shrine at this site in memory of her late husband, Emperor Chūai. A highlight of the shrine’s traditions is the Setsubun festival, where participants, including those zodiac sign of the year and local community members, partake in ‘mame-maki’, a ritual of scattering beans to ward off evil spirits and attract good fortune. The event is made even more intriguing as some of the bean bags include lottery tickets, offering prizes like rice and auspicious items, drawing many visitors eager to test their luck and gather these fortuitous beans.
