At Shiraito Falls, a scenic spot nestled in the mountains of Itoshima, the annual waterfall opening ceremony marks the arrival of summer. Held each year to pray for safety during the busy summer season, the event features a Shinto ritual led by priests, along with stage performances and a traditional mochi-throwing ceremony.
During the warmer months, the area draws visitors seeking cool mountain air and the refreshing sound of flowing water, while nearby facilities offer nagashi sōmen (flowing somen noodles). From late June to early July, around 5,000 hydrangea bushes surrounding the falls come into bloom, adding vibrant color to the early summer landscape.
