Takasu Kagura has been taking place since the start of the Ounin era in 1467. Designated as an important intangible cultural property of Fukuoka Prefecture in 1982, masked dancers take to the stage, inviting onlookers through time into a subtle world of untouched beauty. These traditional dances are held twice a year, once in spring and once in autumn, with autumn’s dance being set at night, flames caressing each whirling dancer. Accompanying the spectacles will also be an explanation of the legend portrayed and the music being played, with a guidebook to the event being sold on the side. There will also be festival stalls selling nostalgic food and more, so don’t miss out!
