During the Tanabata festival in which Japanese look to the stars and make wishes, Hakozaki Shrine hosts a calligraphy performance. Local celebrities use a massive brush to draw characters on Japanese paper measuring 3 m long and weighing 8 kg in a collective dedication for children’s growth and happiness. From July 1 to around July 7, there will be a place to write your wishes on tanzaku strips of paper in front of the main hall of Hakozaki Shrine. Write your wishes and tie them to the bamboo branches.
