Tanabata Shrine Summer Festival
~
Celebrate summer at Tanabata Shrine, one of the few shrines in Japan dedicated to Orihime, the Weaver Princess of the Tanabata legend. Across the Homan River stands Oimatsu-gu Shrine, dedicated to Hikoboshi (Kengyu), making this area a place closely associated with the legendary lovers who are said to meet only once a year.
Throughout the festival, the shrine grounds are adorned with colorful tanzaku wish strips and Tanabata decorations sent from across Japan, creating an enchanting atmosphere. From around midday, food stalls line the approach to the shrine, while stage performances add to the festive mood. It is a chance to enjoy a traditional summer festival in a place uniquely connected to the Tanabata legend.
