Tank Top Valentine’s Festival – Fukuoka Open Top Bus

START: Feb 14, 2014 END: Feb 14, 2014

Do you think you can endure a winter trip around Fukuoka City on an open-air bus wearing only a tank top? Nishitetsu’s double-decker sightseeing bus, the Fukuoka Open Top Bus is holding a Valentine’s event dubbed the “Tank Top Festival” on Feb. 14. Typically in Japan, Valentine’s Day is a day for women to express romantic feelings towards men, but the Open Top Bus team are switching it up with an event focusing on “manliness” this year. The “Tank Top Festival” allows male participants to express their appreciation towards their partners by competing in a feat of endurance! Participants must ride the Open Top Bus course in the winter cold air wearing only the tank tops provided at the ticket counter on their top halves (no restrictions for bottoms!). To stay in the competition, participants may not put on extra clothing layers over the tank top. Those who complete the track in a tank top will qualify – and the final winner is selected from these contestants. Although prizes won’t be revealed until after the race, they’re rumored to be something the winner can enjoy with their partner. Two buses are scheduled to run: 1. Hakata City Naka Course departing at 16:00 from Fukuoka City Hall, and 2. Fukuoka Kirameki Night View Course departing at 18:00 from Fukuoka City Hall. Participants must be over 18 years old, and entry is limited to 20 participants (10 pairs) – application will close automatically when capacity is reached. Any changes and cancellations can be made by phone until Feb. 13. Inquiries on the day of the event can be made at the Fukuoka Open Top Bus ticket counter located on the first floor of Fukuoka City Hall.
