Recall the neighborhood summer festivals from your childhood, where you’d set out excitedly in your yukata. A festival capturing the nostalgia of traditional Japanese summer celebrations will be held at the City Hall Plaza, right in the middle of Tenjin. The food stalls will be packed with festival classics like yakisoba, karaage (fried chicken), shaved ice, and beer. Booths offering fun for children and adults alike, such as yoyo fishing, shooting games, and ring toss, will also be set up. The climax of the festival is the Bon Odori – a dance around the festival tower! Originally a dance to entertain ancestral spirits during the Obon season, Bon Odori has long functioned as a place for community interaction and a venue for men and women to meet. The best part? Everyone is welcome to participate in the dance!
