The 22nd edition of the Kitakyushu Performing Arts Center Reading Session uses performance to examine the way in which Japan as a country and its people are represented abroad in common jokes. Director Seiji Nozoe adapted the script from “The Sequel to A Collection of Jokes Worldwide on Japanese” – a book by journalist Takashi Hayasaka. The popular “reading session” series has become known to be unique and engaging for the audience, actors and production teams due to its three rules: (1) Any kind of dramatic presentation is allowed, but all actors must hold copies of the script during their performance on stage. (2) The performance must incorporate live music. (3) All production staff must be professionals. Sounds interesting?
