“Thinning” is an outdoor market which aims to increase public awareness about the problems that Japanese mountains currently face and also to help protect the country’s forests. The name refers to the ecological practice of forest thinning and the timber that can be used from this process. The market features approximately 40 stalls selling everything from outdoor equipment and apparel to wooden crafts and organic sweets. See 12 tents made with materials gathered from forest thinning in Itoshima up close or join workshops on Ryukyu-style (Okinawa) glass making, t-shirt making and more.
