The town of Yamaga was once known for producing traditional Japanese umbrellas. The industry experienced a decline during modern times, but the area’s delightful parasols are put to good use at the town’s annual lantern festival. The event has been running for the last decade and sees beautiful umbrellas made from washi (Japanese paper) adorn the streets of Yamaga.
