Admire the colorful, traditional Japanese umbrellas and bamboo lanterns adorning the streets along Buzen Kaido in Yamaga City for this annual festival. The lanterns are lit up from 17:30 to 19:00 and visitors can help with lighting them up – just approach a nearby lantern festival volunteer! Don’t forget to drop by the Yachiyoza Theater to watch the Yamaga lantern dance in which dancers will dance with locally-made lanterns attached to their heads (20:30~21:40). There will also be Festival stalls (17:00~22:00), Yamaga drum performances and lottery events where lucky people can get Yamaga’s specialty goods (特産品).
