Celebrating a tradition that is 420 years old, the citizens of Yobuko engage in a massive tug-of-war contest using a 200-meter-long rope. The teams are divided into two categories – land and beach. A victory for the land team is considered a good omen for a bountiful harvest, while a win for the beach team signifies a prosperous fishing season.
This event encourages community participation and everyone is welcome to join in this fun and meaningful tradition. The main event will be held on June 4th. Additionally, a children’s version of the tug-of-war is scheduled for June 3rd, ensuring that the entire community, regardless of age, can be part of this long-standing tradition.
