After studying abroad in Ireland where he visited more than 120 pubs, the owner returned to Fukuoka to open Slainte—the city’s very first Irish pub—in 1996. It is also the go-to pub for rugby fans. The TV in the bar plays the Japanese national team’s games and other top league matches, and you’ll likely end up rubbing shoulders with some players from Fukuoka prefecture-based teams like the Kyuden Voltex, Coca-Cola Red Sparks and Munakata Sanix Blues.
