Two Dogs

If you come from the States you are probably used to a glut of sports bars. Hooters, Pluckers, Buffalo Wild Wings dot the western landscape like so many murdered buffaloes of days gone by. On arrival to Fukuoka, the first thing most Westerners blurt out is, “Where in tarnation are all the goldang sports bars?” as they shoot twin pistols into the sky. Well pardner, I’ll tell you where they’re at. Trot your pony down to Oyafuko-dori street and saddle up to Two Dogs.

For five years this spot has been sporting many of the creature comforts that you’ve come to expect, a bevy of big screen TVs, a darts machines and a host of bar food. Some standouts from the menu are the Bacon BBQ Cheeseburger (¥1,200), Pulled Pork Sandwich (¥1,000) and the Chicken Wings which come cooked several different ways with several different sauces (¥650/5 pcs, ¥1,250/10 pieces, ¥1,800/15 pcs). Two Dogs keeps the menu fresh with monthly food specials including a hamburger and a seasonal flavor. They also have monthly rotating craft beer on tap as well as a weekly featured craft beer. What’s better than a hamburger and a beer? If you catch happy hour from 6 pm to 8 pm you can enjoy half-price cocktails (¥300) and ¥100 off beers.

Every Friday night Two Dogs hosts a DJ who will take requests, so don’t worry about drinking in silence. If you’ve wandered in alone off the street, no fear. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. So if you’ve just landed and are trying to get the lay of the land, pull up a bar stool and chew the fat with one of the bartenders. This is a great place to grab some grub at the beginning of your night or for stumbling into later for that miracle hamburger which will grant you enough clarity to find your way home. Either way, it’ll be a hoot and maybe just maybe it will also be a holler.

New International Bar “Two Dogs Bar & Grill” Opening Report

Oyafuko’s newest meeting place opened tonight at 18:00 and FN was there to check it out. “Two Dogs Sports Bar & Grill” is the collaboration of Jody Archer (FUBAR) and Ryan Lafrance (Infinity Club). We chatted to Ryan, who says the concept of the bar is “Good quality, good food, good service and good times”. Jody and Ryan wanted their new bar and grill to have the atmosphere of an English pub, but with some modern US design mixed in. The establishment can sit 65 people, and there’s standing room for approximately 100. The name “Two Dogs” was thought up by Jody, and the bar’s mascot dog “Rody” is a mix of the two owners’ names – try to find him on the wall when you visit! The bar has a welcoming atmosphere, a cool open-air deck and is a great meeting spot before a night on the town in Oyafuko, or just to relax and unwind with a drink, some food and watch a game with friends. The opening weekend features full bar menu with 8 beers on tap, 40 bottled beers and a small tasting plate menu (full food menu avail. from next weekend). The sports bar also brags three 60 inch TVs, an 100-inch projector – so you can be sure to catch all the action. Come on down tonight to give Two Dogs Bar & Grill a great big welcome to Fukuoka’s nightlife scene.
