Inoshishi Sausage Solution

Kyushu University and Itoshima City are collaborating to develop boar meat sausages. Both parties are working together to come up with a solution for dealing with the overpopulation of wild boars. A large number of wild boar live in and near the farm lands of Itoshima, due to an increase in abandoned and uncultivated land. The agricultural damage that the boars cause is major; in 2010, around 33 million yen’s worth of rice, vegetables and oranges were ravaged by the wild animals. At this point, Itoshima City has captured around 1,300 wild boars to date, and hopes to come up with an effective method of producing boar meat for the future – such as sausages!
