On May 1, the Fukuoka Pref. Police will begin enforcement of the revised Road Traffic Laws concerning bicycles. The new laws prohibit three activities: 1. talking on a cell phone while riding a bicycle, 2. looking at images on a cell phone/portable game console while riding a bicycle, and listening to music through headphones while riding a bicycle. The maximum fine for breaking these laws is ¥50,000.
What do you think? Will you stop using your phone or headphones while riding your bike? Do you care if others do? And if you get stopped by the police and fined, please let us know. We’re curious to see how strictly this will be enforced.
