An old Japanese house lying adjacent to Kyushu University’s Ito Campus was refurbished and turned into a student dormitory. Since 2005 Kyushu University has been gradually relocating its various campuses to Ito, but securing student accommodation in the area remains an issue. The 146-year old two-storey wooden frame building was renovated with the help of local carpenters and Kyushu University students. The dorm, which is the brainchild of Yokagotsu CEO and Kyushu University alumni Ryota Oda, will house eight residents and let the residents decide on their own rules. The rent has been set at ¥38,000 (including expenses) per month and six students already expressed their desire to move in. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 9/7/2017
