2014 Report On “The Competitiveness Of Fukuoka”

In March 2015, The Fukuoka Asia Urban Research Center published its fully bilingual Japanese/English report on the global competitiveness of Fukuoka. The report compares Fukuoka to five other global cities whose citizens have similar qualities of life statistics as Fukuoka namely Seattle, Vancouver, Melbourne, Munich & Barcelona. Using these cities as comparative benchmarks for economic competitiveness, the report models projected growth against 64 quality of life indicators. By doing so it aims to draw strategic conclusions that will both promote growth within Fukuoka and maintain and improve upon present quality of life. In particular, it focuses on the impacts of the Tenjin Big Bang project, which aims to significantly encourage growth within the city core by reducing restrictions upon business. It also focuses on Fukuoka’s role as an Asian hub, and the consequences of expansion to both the airport and seaport areas. The full report can be accessed for free online here:
