4.7 Tons of Trash Cleared From Okagaki Beaches

On June 1, approximately 1,000 residents and volunteers joined a large-scale coastal cleanup in Okagaki Town, Fukuoka Prefecture, under the slogan “A town where sea turtles return.” The event, held annually on the first Sunday of June, targeted five coastal areas including Shin-Matsubara Beach, where loggerhead turtle landings were confirmed two years ago. Participants collected about 4.7 tons of waste—mainly driftwood and plastic bottles—in 90 minutes. Organizers emphasized preserving clean beaches to support the endangered loggerhead turtle’s nesting habitat. Source: KBC
