7 Parks to Offer Accessible Play Equipment in Fukuoka City

Fukuoka City is taking a major step towards inclusive play, with plans to build seven parks featuring playground equipment accessible to all, regardless of disability. This decision comes after a successful trial at Maizuru Park in Chuo Ward, which included a wheelchair-friendly slide and swings with belts to secure those with difficulty maintaining posture. The parks will be built over a three-year period, with the first opening in Momochi Chuo Park in Sagara Ward next spring. The other parks include Island City Central Park in Higashi Ward, Higashi Hirao Park in Hakata Ward, Kamome Plaza in Chuo Ward, Hibaru Sports Park in Minami Ward, Seinan Morinokohan Park in Jonan Ward, and Imazu Sports Park in Nishi Ward. Mayor Takashima spoke at a press conference, saying, “We want to bring this experience to each ward, closer to everyone’s homes. We will continue to explore ways to make the parks more accessible and enjoyable for all.” Source: NHK / Takashima Soichiro Official facebook
