Fukuoka Launches AI-Powered Sign Language System

Fukuoka Prefecture began trials of “Sure Talk,” an AI system for seamless communication with sign language users. The technology converts sign language and spoken words into text using cameras and AI to analyze movement. Demonstrations, including Governor Hattori testing sign language, marked its introduction on December 9. Installed at the prefectural office and a rehabilitation center for the disabled, the trial runs until October 2025. Developer SoftBank emphasized its potential for smoother communication and improved accuracy through widespread use. Source: Fukuoka Prefecture
