AI Store Planning Trial

Nishitetsu Group has completed a pilot project using AI to improve store planning through the analysis of transportation and purchasing data. The trial was conducted at a supermarket directly connected to Nishitetsu Kasugabaru Station, which opened in February. AI analyzed customer movement data from the Nimoca transit IC card system alongside purchasing data from the group’s supermarket chain. The findings were used before opening to forecast customer demand and optimize product selection and shelf layouts. According to Nishitetsu, the store achieved a higher purchase rate than comparable locations while also reducing the time required for tasks such as restocking shelves. The company said it plans to continue using data-driven methods to improve sales performance and operational efficiency across its retail operations. Source: KBC News / TNC News
