Alerts Issued As Typhoon No. 14 Predicted To Hit Fukuoka This Evening

Typhoon No. 14 is gradually approaching northern Kyushu and is expected to come closest to Fukuoka Prefecture from the evening of the 17th.  According to the meteorological observatory, rainfall per hour is expected to be as high as 70 millimeters in Fukuoka and Kitakyushu regions and 60 millimeters in Chikuho and Chikugo regions. The maximum instantaneous wind speed is expected to be 35 meters on land and in the coastal waters of the Fukuoka area, Hibikinada in Kitakyushu area, the Seto Inland Sea in Kitakyushu, and 30 meters in the coastal waters of Chikugo area. Heavy seas with swell are expected at sea, and wave heights are forecast to be 6 meters in the coastal waters of Fukuoka and Hibikinada in Kitakyushu. The meteorological observatory is calling for warnings of high waves with storms and swells, landslides, flooding of low-lying areas, and swelling and flooding of rivers. Source: NHK
