Tokyo-based Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company, the Japanese subsidiary of American parent Mass Mutual Financial Group, announced it will move some of its headquarter functions to Fukuoka as part of its Business Continuity Plan. The company will occupy offices in the Kyosokan, a wing of the Denki Building complex on Watanabe-dori Ave. The company first contacted Fukuoka Prefecture in March about moving some of its operations outside of Tokyo to disperse disaster risk, and it chose the city from among several other candidates including Sapporo. It will open a temporary office in August ahead of full-scale opening next April. The new office will include a call center, and half of the 150-strong staff expected to work in Fukuoka will be new hires.
