Fukuoka City has installed its first artist-designed public bench in the Tenjin area as part of an initiative to encourage walking and public engagement with art. The debut piece, unveiled on April 20 near the Tenjin Nishi intersection, was created by Tokyo-based artist Jin Hasegawa and is shaped like a dachshund. The approximately 3.8-meter-long bench can seat about three adults and features colorful dot patterns representing chemical elements found in living organisms. The project combines the city efforts to promote public health and make art more accessible in everyday spaces. Two additional benches are planned, with installations scheduled near Hakata Station and another Tenjin location by June. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun / Fukuoka City
