The Fukuoka City-based Nishi-Nippon Foundation and the Nishi-Nippon City Bank announced that one person and two groups in the Kyushu region have received the 2011 Asia Contribution Award for their contributions to international exchange in Asia. The individual winner was Dr. Takeshi Katsuki of the Saga University Medical School for his volunteer work to correct the cleft palates of people in developing countries. The winning groups were a cultural exchange organization created by the cities of Fukutsu and Gyeongju, South Korea, and Heart and Hand, and a Miyazaki City organization providing support for education in Bangladesh and Cambodia. An awards ceremony will be held March 9 in Fukuoka City, when each of the recipients will be given two awards worth a combined 1.3 million yen.
