To encourage Asian participants to compete in the Fukuoka Marathon, the marathon organizers have created a special ‘Asia Area’ zone. The new scheme is targeted towards those who live in Asian cities directly connected to Fukuoka by plane such as Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taiwan. So far the scheme has been a success, with some 200 participants from 19 countries already signed up to run the marathon on Nov. 13 (Sun.).
