On June 1, Fukuoka-based pharmaceutical wholesaler Atol Co. completed construction on a cutting-edge area logistics center in Fukuoka City. The Fukuoka Area Logistics Center (or Fukuoka ALC), the company’s seventh logistics center in Japan, will go online on July 8. The four-story center cost ¥12 billion and includes a state-of-the-art automatic warehousing system, the first-ever in the pharmaceutical distribution sector. For the time being, the new center will service pharmacies in the five prefectures of Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto and Oita. The building is quake-resistant and equipped with backup generators so that distribution can continue even in the event of a disaster or other emergency. Source: Mainichi Shimbun 6/1
