Attracting Western Tourists to “Western Golden Route”

Fukuoka and Kumamoto cities, along with 42 other municipalities and 156 private enterprises, have formed the “Western Golden Route Alliance” to promote tourism from Western countries. This initiative aims to establish a popular travel route from Osaka to Kyushu, similar to the “Golden Route” along the Tokaido Shinkansen. Fukuoka Mayor Takashima highlighted that nearly 80% of Western tourists currently visit Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, emphasizing the need to shift focus to less crowded areas. Discussions included the development of private jet and helicopter travel options and promoting the unique continuity of regions in western Japan. The next meeting is scheduled for November to further develop model routes and sales strategies. Source: NHK
