Avian Flu in Miyazaki

Miyazaki Prefecture announced that the results of a test of 36 chickens that died on a local farm showed that six were positive for avian flu. After the infection was confirmed, all 10,000 chickens at the farm were slaughtered. The prefecture requested that the 51 farms within a 10-kilometer radius of the farm refrain from transporting their chickens. A second case of avian flu was discovered at another farm a few days later, and as a result, a combined 410,000 chickens at that farm and surrounding farms will be slaughtered. A further case was then turned up in Kagoshima Prefecture.
